How long does it take to receive a response after sending out a self-recommendation letter? Should I submit it through presubmission on the official website or send it directly via email?

The self-recommended submission caught the editor's interest in the topic, and the full article was invited for submission. The first round of review includes two reviewers for major revisions, and the second round is for minor revisions by the editor. It takes about 2 months each time to receive notifications after resubmission, so the waiting time is a bit long.

This journal only accepts solicited submissions. I previously had one solicited submission accepted, and overall, the editor was very nice. The formatting requirements are relatively high.

2 years ago, I wrote a review based on my own research, submitted it to BA but it was soon rejected. I am studying bioenergy, a very old topic, but I wrote the paper from a new perspective, and included the latest research progress. I tried several journals, and I felt that the paper was sent to be reviewed by people who know the field well. All rejected. Then, I contacted the Editor-in-Chief of this journal, Matt, and he was very positive about the novelty of the idea. I sent him the manuscript; he helped me to revise the content and gave me a lot of suggestions. I then submitted it and recommend a reviewer. I received the decision of major revision after 1 month. The paper must have been sent to reviewers who know the field well again, because they all said the paper was too superficial. But the Editor-in-Chief, Matt, still considered my review helpful to non-expert readers, and he helped me thoroughly revise it again and gave me more suggestions, very specific ones. It was accepted after 2 days! So if you are confident about your research, you must be persistent. Also, I am truly grateful to Matt. This is the article with the highest IF I have ever published. I hope that I will publish some good research papers in the future!
