This is my first article on the direction of metaplasia, and in the format of communication. It was submitted to JACS and returned 10 days later without sending for review. After changing the format on the same day, I transferred it to Angew and it was sent for review after 3 days. The review time was quite long (entire 2 months). Both reviewers gave the evaluation of highly important (20%), but the questions asked were relatively simple and we did not make much experiments. It was resubmitted 15 days later, the "with editor" status was maintained for 7 days, and then it changed to "under review". After another 7 days, the editor notified us of acceptance by email. Both reviewers were quite satisfied. One reviewer's comment changed to very important (5%). It lasted for 3 months from submission to acceptance, and it was a very pleasant experience!

There were 2 reviewers for the first review, and review comments were given in about 25 days. One of them rated it as very important (5%), and the other highly important (20%). The editor gave us 21 days to revise. It should be a major revision, but the system status showed “mbs”. The revision was resubmitted in about 18 days, and we waited about 15 days for the second review till the comments returned. There was only one comment, and it should only be sent to the reviewer who rated it as “highly important”. This time the comment became very important (5%). The reviewer was satisfied with the revision and the editor accepted it directly and recommended the article as the cover. In short, Angew is very efficient, and you can try it if there are novel discoveries or important results.

It was a lucky submission. People of our laboratory doesn’t do research on chemistry, and there is no precedent for submitting to pure chemistry journals, but the boss is an expert in other fields. I personally wrote the first draft according to the writing method of chemistry articles, but I felt it was a mess. I felt it would be good to be accepted by journals with impact factor between 7 to 8. My boss took it and changed it into his professional article writing method and submitted it. It was under review on the next after submission, it took exactly 20 days for the first review, the review comment was an important major revision (it should be a reviewer in chemistry). The reviewer asked to supplement two experiments and explain the mechanism carefully. The other reviewer requested a highly important minor revision, and asked some small questions which were easy to answer (it should be a reviewer in the same profession direction as my boss). The manuscript was required to be submitted in 20 days. It was submitted after supplementing the experiments. It should only be sent to the reviewer who required major revision. Then I started to wait for the result anxiously. The notice of acceptance was received in 2 weeks. It took less than 2 months from submission to acceptance; it was really a very efficient journal. I feel that the editor welcomes cross-discipline. For manuscripts that are not from the experts in Chemistry, but maybe written in other professional styles will be more popular with editors. Finally, we got our paper published on Christmas Eve in October 2015. The review period was close to one month. We only received minor revisions but somehow this led to a rejection by the editor. After a half a year of re-doing animal experiments, re-submitting around June 2015 and then waiting for reviews, we suspect that our manuscript was sent to the original reviewer who rejected our manuscript initially…. Because it got rejected again despite completing all the extra experiments. Very frustrating. The current editor-in-chief suggested to submit to another journal…blah

Using professional editing services on Angew is a mistake. It is easier for those with good relationships, connections, or from large institutions to get their papers submitted. It's all about face value. As a result, there are many papers with poor quality flooding Angew, making it inferior to many top professional journals, which is disheartening. It doesn't even compare to JACS in terms of quality.
