As a research novice, it is my first submission. I still want to evaluate this journal from my personal point of view. First of all, I would like to thank the journal for the efficient processing during the entire process. Secondly, I am satisfied with this submission system. Finally, although my article was rejected, I still don’t know who the reviewers are. However, the comments raised by them were really good. They not only pointed out the shortcomings, but also pointed out the specific revision methods intimately. Although there was no result for the first try, it was fortunately that I didn’t meet a junk journal. After revision, I am ready to submit it to another journal.

The manuscript in the area of electrochemical engineering was uploaded on August 13th. Under review was displayed as soon as the manuscript was submitted. On August 14th, the editor’s email was received that it would be sent for review as soon as possible. The status of associate editor assigned was displayed on the same day. Review comments were returned on September 4th. Two reviewers corrected my wording mistakes in terms of electrochemistry. One gave me four points and the other gave me 3 points. The evaluation is relatively positive. One of the reviewers meticulously made a list to help me polish the language. The editor required a minor revision in two weeks. “Revise Only (Minor revision required.)” I submitted the revised manuscript on September 9th. It still displayed under review as soon as it was submitted. The system accumulative date was stopped on September 19th, and it stopped at the status “Days to Render Final Decision: 36”. A date is issued in the status update, but the result was not notified, and it still showed under review. When I received the acceptance email on September 23th, however, the system showed that the acceptance date was September 19th. After the modification, it was not sent for review. Overall, it just took over a month and it went smoothly. The impact factor was a bit low.

Although the IF is not high, it is a well-known journal of electrochemistry. My article was about some calculations of carbon materials used in lithium batteries. The first review was returned after 2.5 months; there were 3 reviewers and they sent more than 30 questions. I modified it and it was finally accepted. Although JES has a low IF, JES prefers to accept electrochemical calculations.

If it gets stuck at Awaiting reviewer assignment for a month, it is advisable to send a polite email to inquire, as it is likely that the associate editor or ADM is too busy to update the status. After the second round of reviews, there is Awaiting Recommendation, where all review comments are returned, and the associate editor will write a recommendation letter to the editor-in-chief based on the comments. Following Awaiting Recommendation is Awaiting decision, where the editor-in-chief receives the recommendation letter to decide whether to accept or make revisions. Overall, the editor-in-chief and reviewers are very efficient, and we wish everyone success in their research.

The reviewer encountered in this journal is the most unreasonable reviewer encountered in the submission career. The first opinion was major revision, because the reviewer misread the key data of the article and based on his own imagination, made dozens of requests for additional experiments; after explaining the possible misunderstanding in the reply letter, the second opinion was minor revision, still misreading the characterization methods, and requesting the addition of four key experimental data. The first misunderstanding can be understood, but the second one inevitably makes people doubt the professionalism of the reviewer.
The editorial department is very efficient, and their attitude is also very good.
