Before it split, this journal was called the Journal of Physical Chemistry, which was a top-tier journal in the field of physical chemistry. Later, when biochemistry became popular, it split into JPCB, and then when materials chemistry became popular, it split into JPCC. As a result, the original domain of JPC, or the traditional domain, was divided into JPCA, which represents the least trendy part, causing a reverse impact factor flow - JPCA < JPCB < JPCC. Personally, I think that publishing in JPC is highly recognized in various fields. As for JPCA, it still has a strong influence in the various sub-domains it covers.
