This journal is too difficult to publish. I revised and resubmitted it after revision for 3 times. It took half a year in total. The third time there was no comment but acceptance. Fortunately, I did not give up. There should be good news if you keep waiting when receiving the resubmitted notification.

I have read a lot of EM articles recently, in addition to some AEM articles. Overall I feel that EM is more difficult than AEM, first because AEM publishes about 1200 or more per year, but EM only 240 articles per year, and half of them are Special Issues.  So if your research is not relevant to those special issues, you only get the remaining half chances. That kinds determines EM’s competitiveness.

Is there any other status before "under review"? In other words, is it considered "under review" as long as the submission is successful?

I don't quite understand the status of this submission. It was submitted on 7.18 and on 7.23, it was returned with a request to kindly reduce the size/dimensions of the figures. Currently, the pdf proof cannot be generated due to the high resolution/dimensions of the figures, and therefore it cannot be sent out for peer review in its current state. (Please find attached).

The revised version was submitted on the same day, and on 7.28, it was listed as "Under Review".

Is this an external review or an internal review?

After submission, the major revision was received after 45 days;
The revised version was sent back after 3 months, and the minor revision was received after 40 days.
After immediate revision, it was accepted after one month.
Finally, it took nearly 7 months to be accepted.

Submitted at the end of March, it took 4 months to find a reviewer. In August, a rejection email was sent and the paper was resubmitted. After minor revisions in September, it was accepted.

The review process is fast, with each review taking about a month. There are two reviewers and their feedback is very positive. Minor revisions are given a two-month timeline. Personally, I feel that this journal lives up to its reputation as an established publication, as the editors and reviewers are very dedicated and responsible, patiently providing opportunities for proofing. I agree with your statement. I also appreciate your suggestion. Now, this article has been accepted by a top journal in the field of agricultural and forestry sciences, with a score of 6.4 in the first quartile. I never said that the journal is bad. I just think it's strange that the editor suggested submitting it to their own magazine. What does that imply? Wouldn't a normal person think that the editor wants to include this article in their own journal? I am just stating the truth and not defaming anyone or any journal.

Is the person upstairs giving advice to everyone? I'm afraid the opinion is biased! Why do you think your article is suitable for EM, but it was still rejected? (Don't you think it's because your article is not good enough?). The editor suggested that you submit to MB, but it's just a suggestion. The MB editor also has the right to judge whether the manuscript is suitable or not. You can choose not to accept the transfer, right? If you think your manuscript is not that relevant, isn't it expected to be rejected? EM can be said to be a highly reputable magazine in the industry, and the editorial review is very strict and objective. So it's better to focus more on improving the quality of your own articles and research.

An article about environmental microbiology and dairy products, which was very suitable for EM, was rejected by Professor Kenneth Timmis after I submitted it. He suggested that I submit it to the journal Microbial Biotechnology, which he is the editor-in-chief of. Although I felt that my article was not a perfect fit for Microbial Biotechnology, I decided to follow the editor's advice as he seemed interested in the article. After transferring the submission to Microbial Biotechnology, the recommended handling editor for my manuscript was also Kenneth Timmis. I explicitly mentioned in the cover letter that he suggested the transfer. However, the final editor who took over the manuscript was Hui Wang. It took over a week, and just when I thought it was going to be sent for review, they rejected it, citing that it did not fit the journal's theme. This whole process took up a month of time. I don't quite understand the reasoning behind these actions, and I hope others can learn from my experience.
