The CGJ submission system was updated during the middle of our submission. It was super frustrating, and the review speed was incredibly slow as a result. We submitted our manuscript in April 2011, and it was finally accepted in December of the following year. Good grief it was a long time. Hopefully the review period is quicker these days as the submission system has been implemented for a while.

CGJ, the latest Chinese Academy of Sciences division in 2025, belongs to engineering category 3 and engineering geology subcategory 4. This will definitely make it difficult for them to receive a sufficient number of excellent submissions from mainland China in the future. Moreover, this journal relies heavily on submissions from mainland China, so its situation will only get worse. Therefore, do not dwell on the past of the "big four journals" or "big three journals", look ahead.

Now the evaluation of papers is also based on the classification of zones. Perhaps more young people are evaluating the Green Fund. It is still important to publish in Zone 1. The three major geotechnical journals you mentioned should be ranked in order of authority: Geotechnique > JGGE > CGJ. However, without publishing in Zone 1, it is not really impactful.
