After considering, I decided to withdraw the submission. The academic editor is probably the chairman of this journal. If they don't agree, there is no need to make revisions, wasting everyone's time... Moreover, the guest editor worked hard to bring in submissions, just to have the journal reject them?

I will not actively submit to any MDPI journals in the future, nor will I agree to review articles. It's too ridiculous. I wish the journal the best under the foresight and strict requirements of the academic editor.

An extremely frustrating submission experience
Received an invitation to contribute as a guest editor for a special issue. The discount for page charges is reduced by 50% when submitting, but the executive editor said three communications were too many and insisted on deleting one, leaving me speechless.
First round of review took 10 days, with three reviewers and suddenly a new academic editor appeared. While the three reviewers all suggested revisions, the academic editor surprisingly rejected the submission, claiming it did not align with the scope of the journal. If it doesn't align, why submit it for review in the first place...
Forgot to mention, during the revisions, only two out of the three reviewers provided feedback, and the revision time was limited to only ten days.
Managed to rush through the revisions, but when uploading, discovered that another reviewer had also provided feedback without any notification of additional reviews. Submitted a request for a two-week extension, but the reviewer added 9 more comments... The executive editor insisted on one week, so had to work overtime to finish.
Moved on to the second round of review, which surprisingly was quite speedy despite the interruption of a national holiday. Received an email after two weeks requesting a payment of 1350CHF for page charges upon acceptance.
And then, the frustrating part - one week after confirmation, the article was still not officially accepted. Sent an inquiry and was informed that only one out of the three reviewers agreed to accept, while the other two did not respond. The academic editor still disagreed and suggested transferring the submission

From submission to receiving the reviewer's comments, it took a total of 24 days. In the process, one reviewer rejected it because they felt that the direction was not suitable. Another reviewer was then sought, and they requested minor revisions followed by major revisions. After 10 days of major revisions, it was resubmitted, and the minor revisions were provided the same morning. The minor revisions were submitted the same evening, and acceptance was given after 4 days. In total, it took 38 days from submission to acceptance.
