Kathryn Muehlberger, Client Communications Specialist

October 2024

The global scholarly event, Peer Review Week, returns for another year to bring together researchers, publishers, editors, and others to share insights on the topic of peer review. This year’s Peer Review Week took place from September 23–27 with the theme of “Innovation and Technology in Peer Review”. Participating organizations hosted a variety of events and workshops that highlighted the new technologies, including AI, and how they are changing the landscape of scholarly communication.

Here are a few of this year’s highlights:

• A blog post written by Uttkarsha Bhosale of Pluto Labs titled “AI-Assisted Peer Reviewer Selection: Addressing and Overcoming the Shortage in Scholarly Publishing.” Their blog discusses how properly utilizing AI-Assisted peer review selection can help editors and reviewers smooth out their process.

• An interview with Laura Etchells, Head of Research Integrity at Emerald Publishing, as she talks their role in peer review and the challenges it faces ahead.

• A water-cooler-style chat with James Butcher, Founder of Journalology and Danielle Padula, Scholastica's head of marketing and community development, as they discuss how the editor’s role is changing with innovation and technology.

• A webinar with ORCID about navigating the challenges of peer review from a university press’ perspective.

These were just a few of the informative and insightful events Peer Review Week had to offer this year. Be sure to check out the Peer Review Week official website for the full list of articles, blogs and videos. You can also catch up on the activity by exploring Peer Review Week’s Twitter (@PeerRevWeek) and their YouTube channel.
